Drawing for Your Future Self

Here's a getting to know you idea to use with the kiddos. I'm going to try this next week. So, if it flops bad, I will be sure to let you know. Oh, and I'm NOT a great artist. So no salty comments. But I also think it's important for the kids to see that to do this you do NOT have to be a gifted artist to be successful. It's all about visualization.

Please open this up in GoogleDocs & go to File > Make a copy. Make it your own!

Hope this works out for you! I think activities like these can and should be done throughout the year and not just at the beginning of the school year! What do you think?

Here's my kinda lame (but funny) example -- wry grins & some eye rolls expected

Here's also a Google Form that I got from somewhere...unlike on a Doc I can't see who made it! Ack! So for full transparency, this someone shared with me and I made a copy. Was it you? Do you know how I can find out? I'm a Google Certified Teacher / Innovator and still I'm learning new things!

Please let me know. Make a copy for yourself & make it yourself. I also would suggest adding a "made by" line and your contact information.

  1. Thank you for this great activity idea! I currently teach younger students and I think the drawing would be a good option for all ages. I am a classroom teacher currently taking a course on being a teacher librarian and wonder about ways to get to know all of the students that come through. It seems like a daunting task but having an activity like this could really help with that I'm sure!

    1. Finding some kind of icebreaker & get to know you activity that isn't hokey, too corny, or too cringeworthy is a challenge! I'm always open to learning more!

Thanks for your comment -- I'm so used to getting SPAM from some far away place trying to sell things on my blog.

Now, confess...did your Grad professor require you to leave X amount of comments on a Library Blog? [teasing grin] Hee hee....either way, I'm flattered and honored you found your way to mine.
      Cheers dear & see below!

  2. Thank you for this great idea to get to know students. I am currently taking a course on being a teacher librarian and one of my 'wonders' is how to get to know all of the students that come through your doors. I am currently a classroom teacher and spending time with students on a daily basis, you really get to build relationships with them. It's nice to have some ideas for my tool kit on what you can do to get to know the students as a teacher librarian.

    1. Hey Samantha! Thanks again for your comments!

Even a questionnaire can be a fun way to get to know your kids. As simple as an index card! OR.....you could have a soft squishy toy or rubber ducky you ask a question and pass it along as kids answer them -- saying PASS is good for 3 questions. Kind of like Andy Cohen's Plead the 5th! Good luck with your class! I'd love for you to reach out on Twitter or Instagram so I can follow you back and cheer you on your new Library journey!
      Best,
      ~Gwyneth
