21 Must Have Communication Skills

Image
I've been a fangirl of Lisa Johnson aka the @ TechChef4u for years, this an infographic from her latest book: Cultivating Communication in the Classroom: Future-Ready Skills for Secondary Students and it's AWESOME so and I just have to share it with you!  As a middle school teacher and a future ready librarian, I want to make sure our kiddos have what they need going on to High School. These are some the communication skills they need before college and career, so wouldn't it be major if we could get a head start on it? Check it out! Ok, to be honest, books about technology can sometimes be outdated before they're even printed - but this book is about the IDEAS and SKILLS that our kiddos need to be future ready and have the communication skills that will make them effective learners and successful humans. AND if that's not impressive enough it's got a forward from tech legend & guru @ GuyKawasaki !  This book is also recommended by one of my ...

ISTE, Stirring the Pot, & Education Advocacy

Image
Four years ago on Doug Johnson's awesome The Blue Skunk Blog a commenter named Glynda said " Doug, I just read in the SLJ that Teacher librarian Gwyneth Jones is now a board member of ISTE. Perhaps she can help ensure that administrators are not only aware of NETS-A but also following them. " ISTE NETS & the Common Core I recently ended that four year elected term on the ISTE Board of Directors and as I reflect upon my service, participation, and accomplishments balanced with Glenda's comment, I can say that if that was the sole standard of success - I failed! I couldn't then, and I can't now, "ensure" that admins are aware of NETS and I surely can't make them follow the NETS. I think we ALL must have an ongoing conversation with our Admin & staff about how we can integrate ISTE NETS into our daily instruction. Just like teaching technology in isolation, it shouldn't just happen once at a professional develo...

Here's my comment from their blog: "OhMyWordSli...

Infographics and The Library of Congress:
A Colossal Collection of Resource Riches

Image
I forget sometimes how lucky I am that I grew up in the Washington DC metro area and have within 25 min of my front doorstep (ok, maybe not 25 with DC traffic, right!?) but close by is one of the largest collections of rich resources in the world - the United States Library of Congress. But don't fret, you don't need to travel to DC to enjoy the FREE and open globally to everyone in the world the resources, lesson plans, and primary source documents  through their amazingly extensive online website for teachers.  In these tough economic times when districts are discontinuing paying for online research databases this is a goldmine of FREE resources. (Have I said FREE enough? LOL) Oh and you can tell from the title of this post that I love me some alliterative action! But why not? "Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man" Use the Creative Commons infographic below to "sell' all the great stuff that's available AN...
