Not only are they a great way to spend quality time with family and friends, but they also offer a range of cognitive advantages. Assembling a jigsaw puzzle requires critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to visualize the bigger picture while working on the smaller components. It's a fantastic exercise for both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, enhancing creativity, memory, and spatial awareness. Jigsaw puzzles are versatile too—there's a puzzle for everyone, from simple ones for beginners to complex ones for seasoned enthusiasts. They're an excellent way to unwind, boost mental sharpness, and create beautiful artwork—all in one fulfilling activity!Ethan Hunthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01407112355980888552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128908838311784462.post-57671533195656536612023-08-29T22:09:24.260-04:002023-08-29T22:09:24.260-04:00I agree! This article is a good reminder that we owe it to our students to try new techniques and if it doesn't work, try something new! By starting slow with technology, you will be able to see the elements that work best for your classroom/ library.
Thanks for sharing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128908838311784462.post-40978623706841265132023-08-24T14:13:23.956-04:002023-08-24T14:13:23.956-04:00I think that it is so important to remember that j...I think that it is so important to remember that just because we try something out, does not mean we have to stick with the program. It may advertise that it will work super well within the classroom, and after trying it, it may just not be the right thing for your students. Which is totally okay. Especially with how many different software programs that are out there, we can try as many as we feel comfortable with. I thought it was cool how you brought up how technology is always changing to, which I think means we should be ready to change with it. Just remembering back to 10 years ago, the technology we used was completely different than what we use today, and could be very different 10 years from now as well. This was a very interesting post to read, and definitely help my mindset on the subject!Rylahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08354692289653578517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4128908838311784462.post-10967151017136132062023-08-23T16:57:08.315-04:002023-08-23T16:57:08.315-04:00As I am now going through schooling to become an e...As I am now going through schooling to become an educator, reading this article has been a huge help to remind myself that as I start teaching and as I move through my career, there will be a lot of different strategies to try out. Being able to try them all and figure out which ones suit me best is something that is awesome about teaching now, so thank you for the reminder to keep the anxiety down as these tools are going to come and go, but to keep the passion and everything will work itself out one way or another. Thank you so much for your comment! To k...Hi Jess! Thank you so much for your comment! To keep this lesson fresh, I only did it like once a quarter. Unless, the kiddos asked for it -- then I would arrange for their teachers to come back and we would run it again.

This was the first I did where I used music not as just a background but as an integral part of the lesson. I also loved Speed Dating with Books - (see my post about that) where I created a video to play to introduce it to them (saves your voice - it's kinda cringy -- which they kinda love to hate! LOL) and then I played the Love Boat theme during the "dating" or "shopping."

Classroom management wasn't a problem - I have mad "the look" skills. but if it gets out of control, you just stop the music and say sadly "Oh dear, I was really hoping ya'll would be mature enough to do this like the 8th graders" or 6th graders. I would also start out with your best classes first, to get used to how it goes. Then expand. Got a grade level that's having behavior challenges? Skip them & if they ask "Why did the 6th graders get to play Musical Bookcaes and we didn't?" you can say sadly and soothingly, "I guess because they've been so mature lately, they could handle it" and smile and shrug. "Maybe your class will be ready for it soon!" .....Heh heh heh. I always grin after such a delivery just so they know I'm not really mad. But, I am serious, I will not be pushed.
Cheers!
~Gwyneth @GwynethJones - The Daring Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00455804690126231910noreply@blogger.com
