The Daring Librarian

I swear to you, yet again, dear reader, that I am NOT a paid spokesperson for Bitmoji! In fact, they haven't even answered, commented, acknowledged, or even liked ANY of my Tweets or Instagrams or blog posts where I've mentioned them. I am just a total fangirl. A lonely neglected ignored (by them!) fangirl. Wow, that sounded pathetic & needy. Truth hurts. But here I am again sharing something NEW that Bitmoji has brought out that I think is pretty cool for teachers! W00t! They've created, just in time for Back to School, NEW Education themed cartoons. With these new graphics, you can make classroom door signs, positive behavior or badge programs, run off on self-adhesive stickers for easy cute student feedback or add to your SMS Canvas messages & emails home! You can download the Bitmoji and then add your name using PicMonkey . I've blogged before about how much I LOVE PicMonkey . (Still, not on their payroll - just a fangirl, but at least th...

My favorite avatar creator Bitmoji , which I've been blogging about since 2015 (links to those posts below) has recently added a few NEW cartoons featuring books! But, as my Twitter & PA friend Ms. Kim Mento Tweeted, they were sadly dour faced! So, using Photoshop Elements, I pasted some open smiles on my faces. Whilst I was at it (any excuse to use the word whilst!) I added my much needed bangs, blonde highlights, changed my tennis shoe pops of color, and ummm a Harry Potter book or two! It took just a little bit of editing to give my @Bitmoji a smile about carrying her books! I'm not at the level of @GwynethJones with her bangs, but at least now there is a smile above that stack of happiness! #amreading pic.twitter.com/uYbMVB85UR — Kim Mento (@wordsofmento) July 5, 2018 To which I replied... Thanks @Bitmoji for the book cartoons - but as a Librarian, you know I needed them to SMILE! Plus, I really would like a bun with bangs option! (I can add the...

(WARNING - Lots of embedded videos - page may load slowly) Got the Gabsee App? I just got Gabsee and I love it! Gabsee is like an animated 3D version of Bitmoji but with an Augmented Reality twist.  Some are saying it's the " Bitmoji of the future — and illustrates a more personalized path forward for AR ." -The Verge  I say that it's a whole lot of fun, and I can see using it for program advocacy, as well as book and library promotion.  Please take 36 seconds to watch this amuse bouche iMovie intro to Gabsee that I created in a hotel room in Nashville - just in case Gabsee or Instagram was blocked in the school that was hosting the awesome #MNPSLibHack conference, (and guess what? It was! Whew!) Good thing I never rely on the Interwebs when keynoting & presenting! Then we'll get down to virtual brass tacks. Oh, and I have a little mini-rant below about how, yet again -- I'm a little late to the Gabsee party, and it's OK! Read...

100% Street Cred! I get emails every week from startups, apps, & companies wanting me to blog about their products to which I always (99%) nicely say "no thanks" and that my street cred and integrity on this blog is important!  But when I fall in love with something that's fun and FREE - I just HAVE to share it! You have to try this in your life! From the Bitstrips People The Bitmoji app , brought to you by the people of Bitstrips (which I shared more than 4 years ago on my 21+ Avatar Generator & Creators page!) is available in both iOs and on Google Play for the Android OS. Create your face, bod, hairstyle, dress it up, & BOOM! They're put into these fun cartoon stickers that are an alternate emoji keyboard! Even my 75 year old Mom & Dad have them, and we use them with each other ALL the time. It's hilarious and a blast! I re-read this blog post early this morning and realized I used the word FUN....way too many times! Cool, ...
